A Ridged Heddle Loom for Christmas!

I’m so excited to have received a Ridged Heddle Loom from my husband this year for Christmas!

I’ve been wanting one for a while now. I have 2 floor looms, but the thought of a small, portable loom was enticing. And I really like the fact that there is so little yarn waste on the ridged heddle looms. On my floor loom I loose 27″ on each strand of warp. On this, I loose nothing because there is no back beam to go around.

For my 1st project I decided to make a scarf with the yarn I got last Christmas at the Yarn Exchange with my spinning group. Each person in the group spun up a 20 yard mini skein for everyone so we all went home with a collection of different yarns. Some was wool, some Alpaca, some silk and some blends. And all different colors!

I used those for my warp ( the long part of the scarf that gets put on the loom first). Setting the loom up (warping it) was crazy quick. I love that!

I chose a solid dark green wool for my weft (the part that goes back and forth across the width). Because I got the stand as well, I was able to sit comfortably in front of the TV and weave. It’s quiet too, so I didn’t disturb my husband while I worked.

I love how it came out! I can’t wait to plan more projects!!
