Camping with the Girls

Last month – when I should have been home preparing for Christmas – I went to FDR State Park in Georgia with some of my girl friends. These are my Spinning Pals. We loaded up our Spinning Wheels and headed north. The timing was such that I had to take my brother to the Atlanta Airport on the way. So Loretta rode with us and after dropping him off we continued on to meet the others in Pine Mountain where we picked up some groceries before heading to the cabin.

We unloaded the Wheels and mounds of fiber and settled in to spin. I, as usual, brought more than enough fiber. I also brought along some yarn that I had prepared into chains for weaving. Cindy was kind enough to bring me her Table Loom so that I could weave a scarf in secret for my husband. It was to be a Christmas gift.

The scarf turned out wonderfully. He was completely surprised. The yarn is an Alpaca Silk Blend and it feels fantastic against the skin. I purchased it during my trip to SAFF in North Carolina.

I also got some spinning done. I’m not sure what I will make with this yet, but it’s so soft and yummy I know it will be great!

It’s a Merino Silk Blend.

It was a great trip! We went to Callaway Gardens to see the Christmas lights,

visited the Butterfly Garden at Callaway,

watched the ducks,

and the five of us laughed until the stars were well into the sky. I always treasure my time with my friends and this trip was perfect. And I still managed to get ready for Christmas! I just couldn’t share it with you until after my Husband had a chance to open his gift!
