Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Nut Thingies

I’m still frantically trying to finish up all my Christmas shopping and still find time to bake. So it isn’t any wonder that I like to include a few quick recipes to help fill my Holiday Gift Plates.

Today I’m making some Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Nut Bars. This recipe essentially involves no cooking what so ever. Just some melting and a quick trip into the oven to finish the job.

You will need:

1 – 12 oz package Chocolate Morsels

1 – 11 oz package of Caramels

1 1/2 cups small Pretzel knots

1/2 cup chopped nuts ( I used Pecans )

Cooking Spray

Lightly coat a 9 x 11 baking pan with Cooking Spray. Spread 1/2 of the Chocolate Morsels in the pan. They won’t completely cover the bottom.

Top with the Pretzels.

Melt the Caramels with 1 tsp water and drizzle over the top of the Pretzels.

Sprinkle on the Nuts.

Top with the remaining Chocolate and bake at 350 degrees for a few minutes, just until the chocolate is melted. Don’t over cook – the morsels will not loose their shape. Test them with a spatula for softness.

Remove from the oven and using a spatula, spread the Chocolate around a bit. Cover with Aluminum Foil. It helps to spray the aluminum foil with the cooking spray too. Using a pot holder to protect your hands, press down on the top. You will hear the Pretzels breaking. Press firmly to push all the ooey gooey Caramel and Chocolate into all the cracks and crevasses.

Cool completely before carefully removing the Aluminum Foil and cutting into squares.
